Dearest Gentle BookStacker,

It’s time for for a little subscriber sneak peek at next week’s issue! I meant to post this last night but honestly I forgot it was Thursday until after I’d used my allotted productive time. Apologies!

1 A bookstagrammer who prides themselves in “reviews, recs and mental health chats” posted a video saying he doesn’t like when people tell him not to read problematic authors because he wants to “decide for himself”. I personally wouldn’t trust my mental health chats from someone who doesn’t understand that an author’s behavior may make their books unpalatable to some readers.

2 At a book convention, ARC copies of Rachel Gillig’s next release were passed out to some lucky readers. Only, many of these readers immediately put them on a resale site. Honestly, with the price of eggs being what they are, I get trying to make money so you can continue to buy books and go to cons and what have you. I don’t think it’s RIGHT, but I UNDERSTAND the motivation. What I don’t understand is paying $400+ for a book someone got for free. Could never be me.

3 News broke that Meta used a pirating site to train their AI. This is disgusting on many levels, but I genuinely don’t understand how it’s legal. Seeing authors dunking on MZ’s latest Threads post was hilarious though. Not more hilarious than his company stealing author’s intellectual property to train their AI. But a glimmer of hilarity in a storm of horrendousness.
